Constanza Pérez Carrillo is a Mexican artist whose work in photography, visual storytelling, and social activism reflects her personal exploration of identity, memory, and healing.

Her journey began at a young age with a video camera given to her when she was 8, and has since evolved through studying photography in Florence and film in Mexico City and Barcelona. Constanza’s artistic style combines documentary photography with self-portraiture, focusing on themes like body, trauma, and healing.

Her work creates space for authenticity in a world dominated by external pressures. Through self-portraiture, she challenges societal norms and uses her own experiences as a lens to explore universal themes of resilience and self-discovery.

In 2023, Constanza released her debut photobook Opera Magazine at Paris Photo with Kerber Verlag, and participated in a workshop by Magnum Photos, led by photographers Antoine D'Agatha and Tania Bohorquez. That same year, she held her first solo exhibition of self-portraits at Proyectos Multipropósito, with her work also shown at the Museo de Arte Moderno in Mexico City. She is currently blending photography with painting to further explore themes of identity and memory.

Constanza was also invited in 2025 to give a workshop at El Casa de San Agustín Etla in Oaxaca, a cultural center founded by Francisco Toledo. The workshop, combining photography and philosophy, exemplifies her growing role as an artist and educator focused on using self-portraiture to guide young people towards deeper self-awareness.

In 2017, Constanza co-founded Violeta Films, an all female production company aimed at transforming the filmmaking landscape by offering a platform for women to create authentic, socially conscious content. Violeta Films has become a space for women to share their stories, with a focus on gender equality and women’s rights in a male dominated industry.

In her social advocacy work, Constanza it’s working on a partnership with UNFPA (United Nations Population Fund) to develop creative projects promoting gender equality and women’s rights, particularly in Latin America. She has also contributed to discussions on women’s roles in the creative space at the Women Economic Forum and has worked with the Mexican government to create content tackling social issues like domestic violence and gender inequality.

Beyond her work with Violeta Films, Constanza has contributed to films showcased at major international festivals such as Sundance, IDFA, and SXSW. Her documentary LANAWARU, produced with Conservation International and the Bezos Foundation, premiered at IDFA. Constanza has also collaborated with global music labels like Sony Music, Warner Music, and Universal Music Group, creating visuals for major artists. One of Violeta Films' projects was nominated for a UK Music Video Award in 2022 for its creative excellence.

From photography to film and activism, Constanza continues to challenge norms and create spaces for self-expression, especially for women. Her work is committed to both the art and social worlds.
